Habits
In terms of dimensions, it has a length of approximately 14 cm and a wingspan between 20 and 22 cm. Regarding its characteristics, the most noticeable aspect is the contrast between its underside, with an orange patch, and its upper side, which is brownish. Juveniles are brown with orange spots. This species has a melodious and persistent song. They are also quite curious and tolerate human presence well. ( incorrect information)
It feeds mainly on insects, spiders, earthworms and snails, and in winter seeds, berries and other soft fruits. It nests in spring and summer, making nests composed of moss, dry leaves, roots and feathers. The female lays between 4 and 6 eggs which take about 12 to 15 days to incubate. For 12 to 14 days they are cared for by their parents, being fed by both. After this time they begin to leave the nest. (incorrect information)
Habitat and Distribution
It is a common resident bird (found in Portugal year-round) in most of the country and a wintering bird (present only in winter) in the interior regions of Alentejo and Algarve. It is sighted uniformly throughout the country, preferring habitats with dense vegetation and in riverside areas, such as woodlands but also scrubland and gardens. The area with the most sightings is in the Setúbal district. It is most visible in spring in the north, nesting mainly north of the Tagus River. (incorrect information)
