Collective exhibition -
Archive the visible and the invisible

Individual work -
Rediscovery of the past

Exhibition with a collective theme composed of several works related to archive objects, both personal and public.

For the theme in question, I decided to choose an archive of some photos of my grandfather, organizing them in the order of his life. With this archive, I showed what cannot be seen in the original photographs, a representation of his Alzheimer's, through the use of some photographic and editing techniques. Representing the loss of memory and the confusion of his mind through the distortion and blurring of the images.

This work was also presented in Leiria, at the Museum, together with nine others by other students of the Bachelor's Degree in Photography. This exhibition had the collaboration of the Museum and the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar. Professor Rita Gaspar Vieira was responsible for the curation of this collective exhibition with the theme “Photography and Archive: the visible and the invisible”. This exhibition took place from February 24, 2024 to January 31, 2025.

This exhibition presented the work of ten students, each with their own individual work on an archive that represents them through photography in their own way. These works were later brought together in the museum gallery, each interconnected to form a single presentation.

My specific work was done with the images above. I decided to make a “folding paper” organized according to my grandfather’s life. This folding paper was made by continuously printing the 37 photos in A5 size. In total, the ribbon is 15cm wide and 7.8m long. With this engraving, I decided to fold it and hang the paper on the gallery wall, leaving half of the paper visible from the ceiling to the floor, and the other half left folded on a support on the floor, making the viewer need to unfold the rest to see the rest of the story.
