Captivity:
Biological Park
Project completed in 2023

This work is a continuation of my 2021 captivity project, in which I created a series of photographs representing the feelings of animals kept in captivity at a zoo. The theme for this work remains the same, but the animals shown are all native to Portugal, from a biological park, not a zoo.

After photographing the species, I chose to display some of the photographs in frames. And in these frames, I placed a net-covered lid to emphasize the theme of captivity, almost giving the impression that the animals are kept trapped inside the frame. It is even uncomfortable to see the photographs through the net-covered lid, further accentuating the discomfort of the animals' situation.

I also gave a second presentation of this work in which I printed the photographs on glass using an alternative experimental photographic process called "Washed Emulsion". Additionally, I placed a light box behind each frame so the image could be seen, making it function as a decorative lamp. Because it was an experimental process, the results were not perfect.
